How The TerraCycle® Brigade® Programs Work

Brigade Program

TerraCycle’s eco-friendly fundraising initiatives, called Brigade programs, are free and open to any individual or organization. TerraCycle and its partners cover all shipping costs and contribute two points per unit of waste that is returned. The points can be used for charity gifts or converted into cash to put toward a school or charity of the collector’s choice. It is quick and easy to sign up for a Brigade! To get started go to www.terracycle.net.

Before signing up, potential participants should determine which materials they want to collect. TerraCycle accepts more than 30 different types of products or packaging including drink pouches, chip bags, yogurt cups, tape dispensers, cereal bags, cookie wrappers and more.

Once it has been determined what materials will be collected, set up an account by clicking “Start Collecting” next to any program. Contact and charity information will need to be provided. A participant can provide his/her own charity (the school or charity Tax ID number will be needed) or choose from TerraCycle’s default non-profits such as The Nature Conservancy.

Once signed up, participants are able to begin collecting using a container of their choice. When they’re ready to send in their collected packaging, they log in to their account on the TerraCycle Web site, print one label per box and send it to TerraCycle.

TerraCycle’s Brigades divert packaging waste from landfills and help raise consumer awareness about reducing, reusing and recycling. They are also a great way to earn money for charities, schools, and non-profits through the collection of hard-to-recycle items. By encouraging people to rethink ‘what is waste,’ TerraCycle is making it simple for consumers to have a positive impact on the environment.
